First Day

This is my first day of blogging. It's cold outside - air temp today is 3 degrees. January and February are the months I hate the most and the only thing that makes this year better than most is that I am going to school. Commencing January 12th I will be taking Beginning Chemistry and Anatomy and Physiology at OCC (Oakland Community College). The Chemistry class is the last pre-requisite I have to take before applying to the nursing program. I hope to be accepted immediately, but realistically anticipate a six month waiting list. While I am waiting there are a few more biology classes I can get out of the way so it won't be a total loss.

I am an unemployed automotive worker. I worked as an excutive secretary/executive assistant for over twenty years before finally losing my job in July 2009 due to the economic down turn. I have to admit I am not disappointed as I had become kind of disillusioned with the whole thing and was beginning to feel that my work was unimportant, as in I didn't contribute to making the world a better place by doing it. I feel that nursing is the right direction for me and fell kind of lucky in a way that things turned out this way.

I am not a kid any more, but still young enough to begin again and I feel I've been presented with an opportunity that few people ever get; to have a whole second career - a second chance, if you will, to make my life and work matter.
